Hey guys! Since there aren’t news about Alicia lately, we will be focusing on organizing and adding all of the missing photos to our site’s photogallery. Just wanted to let you guys know that we were able to add screencaptures from every television series Alicia has appeared in ever since she was around 15! In 2003 she had a guest appearance in a mini-series called En ö i havet as Susi, a young girl the main character befriends on the school bus and in De Drabbade as Drabbad Mörker, a worshiper of the series’ villain. In 2005 she had a recurring role in En decemberdröm as Tony, a rebel who constantly picks on the main character. In 2007 she had a leading role in the first season of the Swedish soap opera Andra Avenyn as Jossan Tegebrandt Björn, a teenager who gets blackmailed by a group of boys following a shameful recording, as well as a key role in a mini-series called Levande föda as Linda, a missing girl whose disappearance is wrapped in a dark mystery and in 2008 she had a guest appearance on the crime tv series called Höök as Katarina the sister of the victim of a serial killer. In our opinion, even though she was at the beginning of her career, you could alrady see see how talented she is. Head to the photogallery if you’re curious of some of her earlier projects!

 

Netflix has teamed with Scott Free on an adaptation of the Susanna Jones novel The Earthquake Bird. Alicia Vikander and Riley Keough are finishing deals to star for Wash Westmoreland, who wrote the script and will direct.

The Earthquake Bird is a Tokyo-set female-driven noir thriller that tells the story of young female expat who is suspected of murder after her friend goes missing in the wake of a tumultuous love triangle with a handsome local photographer.

The project originally took root at Amazon Studios, but Netflix will make the picture and has set a May production start in Tokyo and Sado Island. Scott Free’s Kevin Walsh and Michael Pruss will produce alongside Ann Ruark and Twenty First City’s Georgina Pope. Ridley Scott will be exec producer.

The Earthquake Bird won several awards including the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and the Crime Writers’ Association New Blood Dagger Award for newly published authors. Westmoreland seems a strong match for the material: he spent a year studying in Japan around the time the book is set there. He previously co-wrote and co-directed the Sundance winner Quinceañera.

After planning a mysterious luxury jaunt, Emilie (Eva Green) effuses happiness that her long out-of-touch younger sis Ines (Vikander), a successful artist now suffering some negative reviews, has agreed to join her. Meanwhile, Ines remains skeptical and stand-offish, wondering how her drama queen sibling can afford such excess. But given that the surprise destination turns out to be a high-end euthanasia clinic in the remote countryside, accessible only by helicopter or hours of driving, terminally-ill Emilie needs only to afford six days before she literally and figuratively checks out.

Danielle ‘Danny’ Flinders is a bio-mathematician working on a deep sea diving project to support her theory about the origin of life on our planet. Soon, they are worlds apart. James is taken hostage by Jihadist fighters and has no way of contacting Danny, and she has to go down to the bottom of the ocean in her submersible, not even knowing if James is still alive…

As mentioned in our yesterday post, Alicia is gracing the April 2018 Cover of Marie Claire! She looks beautiful but we were so excited to see them yesterday and now we’re disappointed cause all of the photos are black & white and they wasted the beautiful retro outfits, Alicia’s glowy skin tone, the cool make-up and the awesome textures. A lot of times when photographers go b/w it’s because they’re out of ideas or want to seem edgy (but end up looking uninspired) or when they simply didn’t produce good photography so we don’t get it! Hopefully they’re colored in the spread. Here, a few highlights from her April cover interview, on newsstands March 27:

On conveying Lara Croft’s strength in Tomb Raider:

We wanted to base most of the action in reality. She’s a girl my size having to become a survivor and overcome a lot of obstacles, and I wanted it to be believable that she could do it. All the action scenes when I had to fight with a man bigger than me—we had to figure out how I could actually kick his ass. I wanted to show young girls that it’s cool to be a girl who’s really strong and that watching her, you feel like OK, she might be able to climb that wall. Due to CBS’ coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Thursday’s “Late Late Show With James Corden” will air later than usual. CBS estimates that it will start at around 1:37AM ET. Those who stay up for the episode will get to see two stars from the new “Tomb Raider” film. Alicia Vikander and Walton Goggins appear for the nightly discussion. Vikander stars as Lara Croft in the film, while Goggins plays Mathias Vogel. Thursday’s “Late Late Show” also features a musical performance by James Blunt.

The international actress approached the set to talk about her new movie “Tomb Raider“, which is the third feature film of the saga and that hits theaters this Friday, March 16.  Oscar winner for her role in the film «The Danish Girl» – takes over from Angelina Jolie in the role of Lara Croft.

“It’s an all an honor because it’s about a character that I’ve grown up with. I remember playing the game with nine or ten years. She was the first female protagonist that I saw in that universe, but I also have to tell you that I started to sweat because you have to honor a character who has marked an era without giving up your personal mark on her,” she said.

She started acting in theatre at the age of 7, trained as a ballet dancer from age 9, and got into law school (she didn’t go – she got her first major acting role at the same time). Since then, she’s gone from strength to strength: In 2016, she was nominated for two Golden Globes for her performances in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl, and won an Oscar for the latter. Now Alicia’s taking on something completely new and becoming an action hero as the iconic Tomb Raider herself, Lara Croft. She will reveal it took three to four months to gain the muscles only three weeks to lose them: “I did climbing, cycling, various trainings.” And she also talks about her diet while trianing: “It’s a pot of rice five times a day. You only eat good carbohydrates, not bad ones. ” Oscar Winnrer for Best Supporting Actress in 2016 for “Danish Girl”, she says she does not have Oscar with her: “I don’t have Oscar with me, I haven’t seen him since the ceremony. My friend’s daughter is taking care of my Oscar. “

Alicia Vikander has a mantra. “When things are hard,” she begins, slowly, “I say, ‘Yeah, but it’s not tougher than ballet school.’” Alicia enrolled at the Royal Swedish Ballet School when she was 9 years old, and danced with companies until she was 19, which amounts to a childhood spent in permanent discipline.

“One thing you learn in a school like that, if it doesn’t break you, is that no one does for you.”

It’s a rather worldly lesson to have internalized as a child, but as preliminary training for Hollywood, you’d hazard the lesson was invaluable. Today, the 29-year-old Oscar winner still has the physical mannerisms of a dancer: she sits, back straight on her chair, legs crossed, occasionally grasping her feet and rocking from side to side. Her first English-speaking role was only “six or seven years ago”, and she speaks slowly and carefully, though it doesn’t seem like the uncertainty of the non-native speaker, but instead a deep-rooted thoughtfulness. LOS ANGELES – Alicia Vikander had just wrapped her exhausting 100-day Tomb Raider shoot last June when she decided to catch the summer movie sensation Wonder Woman for rest and relaxation. Seeing Gal Gadot’s powerful Diana Prince at the center of the superhero world knocked Vikander out. Nearly a year later, Vikander is returning the favor, stepping into the action boots of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (in theaters Friday). Angelina Jolie previously strapped on the iconic video-game heroine’s combat-ready footwear in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the 2003 sequel Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life.

“I was amazed, I watched a battle scene onscreen with only women and realized that it was so far away from everything I have been fed my entire life,” Vikander says. The visualization hit home, I’m a feminist, and aware, but I was like, ‘Wow,’ I hadn’t really even questioned that I only see men in these things. I felt thankful to them for bringing (us) this film.”

In the luxury apartment of a West End hotel, the Oscar-winning actor Alicia Vikander is not quite feeling herself. ‘This makes me feel very small and a bit overwhelmed,’ she says, nodding towards the spacious sitting room furnished with embroidered sofas and hand-painted armoires. ‘This is really not who I am.’

Dressed in black leggings and an oversized navy cable-knit sweater, Vikander does look rather small. She opts to sit on a stiff dining chair, pulling it up close to the table. Her hair is pulled back into a ponytail, there is no make-up on her face and, at 29, she has the serious, youthful air of an international student.

People think of me as this art-house girl. But when I was a little girl in Sweden the films I loved were all those amazing action movies – Indiana Jones and The Mummy. The idea that I was being asked to do this movie…’ She pauses and shakes her head. ‘I am an actress from a tiny country where even just to think you can be in a movie seems like a dream, and then to be in a movie that you dreamt about as a kid just seemed completely surreal. The 29-year-old Swedish actress added that “awareness has spread and suddenly it’s become more natural to tell all the diverse stories that are out there, we’re not just, without thinking, choosing the ones that have been told repeatedly before. I’ve been very fortunate that I haven’t had any sexual harassment on set. But I’ve been in situations where people in power have put me on the spot, or made me feel stupid and young when I wasn’t able to express myself publicly.

Once, an older female co-star actually said on my behalf, “That’s not OK.” I can now speak up and say that is not fine, and I’ve been given the fortunate position now of not being, in the same way, afraid of losing my job, which was deep down the reason you don’t want to be trouble. You don’t want to be difficult…
When I met my husband three and a half years ago, he had mentioned he’d been to Lisbon and loved it, and I knew friends who were moving out there. And that was a time when I was just starting to feel really at home in London.

For three months before filming, I started every morning with an hour’s workout. Then there was a lot of eating going on; I had to have five meals a day,’ she said, of the preparation she had to undergo. ‘I wanted Lara to be strong. I’m very petite myself, and I wanted the audience to find the action sequences plausible – to believe that she could do it, that she could lift herself up with her own bodyweight. It’s tough being a young girl at this time, you know? I’m now working in an industry which lives on creating an image, a fantasy and I feel like I need to show younger women that is what it is.

You shouldn’t be too good, or do something different… In a way it’s great to grow up with that, as it makes you very grounded, but also a bit scared of standing out and making a big leap away from the rest of the group.

Alicia Amanda Vikander (/əˈliːsiə vɪˈkændər/;Swedish: [aˈliːsɪa vɪˈkandɛr] born 3 October 1988) is a Swedish actress and former dancer. She is the recipient of several accolades, including an Academy Award, and was listed by Forbes in their 30 Under 30 list in 2016.

Born and raised in Gothenburg, Vikander began acting as a child in minor stage productions at the Gothenburg opera house and trained as a ballet dancer at the Royal Swedish Ballet School in Stockholm and the School of American Ballet in New York. She began her professional acting career by appearing in Swedish short films and television series and first gained recognition in for her role as Josefin Björn-Tegebrandt in the drama series Andra Avenyn (2008–10). Vikander made her feature film debut in Pure (2010), for which she won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. She gained wider recognition in 2012 for portraying Kitty in Joe Wright’s film adaptation of Anna Karenina and Queen Caroline Mathilde in the Danish film A Royal Affair.

In 2014 and 2015, Vikander achieved global recognition for her roles as activist Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth, a humanoid robot in Ex Machina, for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress, and painter Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl, for which she received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Vikander is a feminist and is vocal about gender inequality in film. She is married to the actor Michael Fassbender.

Early life

Vikander was born in Gothenburg, the daughter of Maria Fahl Vikander, a stage actress, and Svante Vikander, a psychiatrist. Her parents are from small villages in the north and south of Sweden, respectively. They separated when Vikander was two months old, and she was mostly raised by her single mother. She has five half-siblings on her father’s side. Vikander has said that she had the best of both worlds growing up, being an only child to her mother and being surrounded by a big family when she went to her father’s house every second week. Her ancestry is Swedish and one quarter Finnish.

Vikander started her career as an actor at the age of seven, starring in a production of Kristina från Duvemåla at The Göteborg Opera, which was written by the Mamma Mia! creators, Björn and Benny from ABBA, performing in the play for three-and-a-half years. She appeared in several musicals at the Opera, such as The Sound of Music and Les Misérables. In 1997 she participated in the TV4 kids’ singing show Småstjärnorna; she performed the Helen Sjöholms song “Du måste finnas”. She won her episode with praise by the judges for her stage presence.

Vikander trained in ballet from the age of nine with the Svenska Balettskolan i Göteborg (1998–2004). At the age of 15, Vikander moved from Gothenburg to train at the ballet’s upper school in Stockholm and she lived on her own, working to become a principal dancer. She traveled around the world for summer courses, training one summer at the School of American Ballet in New York City.

At the age of 16, she almost left school to commit fully to the television series she worked on with director Tomas Alfredson, realizing her passion for acting. Her dance career was sidelined by injuries in her late teens. She auditioned for drama school but was turned down twice. At one point, Vikander was admitted to law school but she never attended, following her dreams to become an actress instead.

Career

Early career

Vikander began her career by appearing in a number of short films and television roles in her native Sweden. She became well known in Scandinavia for her role in the popular Swedish TV drama Andra Avenyn (2008–2010).

2010–14

Vikander received critical acclaim for her feature film debut, playing the leading role of Katarina in the Swedish film Pure (2010). The film centers around the troubled secretary Katarina, who desperately tries to escape her life. With this role, Vikander won the Rising Star Award in 2010 at the Stockholm Film Festival, the Shooting Star Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the prestigious Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. In 2011, she had the leading role of Fragancia Fernandez, who is arrested for attempted murder, in The Crown Jewels. In 2012, Vikander gained international attention for playing the key role of Kitty in the English-language film adaptation of Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and received positive reviews.

That year, she added Danish to her repertoire while co-starring as Queen Caroline Mathilde in the Nikolaj Arcel feature film A Royal Affair. It had its world premiere at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival and was received with critical acclaim. The film was subsequently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards.

Vikander was named as one of the 10 Actors to Watch: Breakthrough Performances of 2012 at the 20th Hamptons International Film Festival, was nominated for BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2013, and received the Editor’s Choice Award at the 2013 Elle Style Awards.

In 2013, she starred as German Pirate Party member Anke Domscheit-Berg in The Fifth Estate. The film opened the Toronto International Film Festival on 5 September 2013. The film garnered mixed critical reactions; however, some critics praised the performances in the film. She also had the leading role of Erika in the Swedish film Hotell, for which she was awarded the Marrakech International Film Festival Award for Best Actress by jury president, director Martin Scorsese.

In 2014, she appeared in the Australian crime thriller Son of a Gun. The film was released in Australia on 16 October 2014 and received mixed reviews; however, Vikander was praised for her performance.

2015–present

In 2015, Vikander had substantial roles in eight films. She was praised by critics for her portrayal of painter Gerda Wegener in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the second Swedish actress to win this award; the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, and the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actress; and received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role but lost both awards to Brie Larson for her role in Room.

She gained public recognition and critical acclaim for her starring role as Artificial intelligence Ava in Alex Garland’s directorial debut Ex Machina, for which she received a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture and the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

She had the leading role of pacifist Vera Brittain in Testament of Youth alongside Kit Harington and Emily Watson. Testament of Youth was well received upon its release, with critics praising Vikander’s performance in particular. For her role as Brittain, Vikander was nominated for BIFA Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a British Independent Film. She also played the role of half-human/half-witch Alice Deane in the fantasy film Seventh Son (2015), narrated the Swedish documentary Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words (2015), had the female leading role in the Guy Ritchie-directed action film The Man from U.N.C.L.E., based on the 1964 MGM television series of the same name; and appeared in the film Burnt (2015).

On 6 May 2016 it was announced that Vikander set up a production company called Vikarious along with her agent Charles Collier. The company’s first film, Euphoria, a production with Sweden’s B-Reel Films, began shooting in the German Alps in August 2016. The film is the English-language directorial debut of Swedish writer/director Lisa Langseth, and was Langseth and Vikander’s third collaboration. Vikander starred opposite Eva Green and Charlotte Rampling as sisters in conflict travelling through Europe toward a mystery destination. Euphoria received its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2017.

In 2016, Vikander starred opposite Matt Damon in Jason Bourne, directed by Paul Greengrass. It was released on 29 July 2016 by Universal Pictures. Vikander then appeared in the adaptation of the novel The Light Between Oceans (2016), directed by Derek Cianfrance, with Michael Fassbender and Rachel Weisz. The film was released in the United States by Touchstone Pictures on 2 September 2016.
Upcoming projects

On 30 November 2015, it was announced that Vikander will co-star opposite James McAvoy in the upcoming romantic thriller, Submergence. The film will be directed by Wim Wenders. In April 2016, it was confirmed that Vikander would play Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot film adaptation which is set to be released on 16 March 2018. In June 2016, it was reported Vikander was being eyed to portray Agatha Christie.

Personal life

Vikander previously lived in North London. In late 2014, she began dating actor Michael Fassbender. They married on 14 October 2017 in a private ceremony in Ibiza, Spain. As of 2017, they reside in Lisbon, Portugal.

Politics

Vikander identifies as a feminist, and has denounced gender inequality in film:

I’d just made five films in a row, and [Tulip Fever] was the first one where I had a scene with another woman…There’s a change happening, and I want to be part of that. You see something like The Hunger Games or Insurgent proving that a female role can carry a successful blockbuster.

On 10 November 2017, Vikander was one of 584 women who have called for the Swedish film and theatre industries to address what they say is a culture of sexual misconduct. She added her signature to an open letter published in Swedish paper Svenska Dagbladet. The letter contains numerous accounts of sexual harassment, assault and rape suffered by women in the Swedish industry, all recounted anonymously. According to a translation of the letter published by English-language Swedish publication The Local, the signatories vowed that they will “no longer be silent”. Following the letter’s publication, Swedish press is reporting that culture minister Alice Bah Kuhnke called a meeting of the heads of Sweden’s National Theatre Company, the Royal Dramatic Theatre and the Royal Swedish Opera
